Message from the President
Dear Colleagues,
I so appreciate the hard work of so many faculty, staff and students that have enabled us to host visitors on campus this year. Earlier this month, 180 prospective students brought family members and friends to campus for the Get to Know ÑÇÖÞÎÞÂë open house event. That was followed by more than 1,000 high school and middle school students visiting the University to learn about engineering during National Engineers Week—an event nearly single-handedly orchestrated (quite masterfully) by Professor Kim Jovanovich. Each visit to our campus provides an opportunity for us to provide a warm welcome to a potential Privateer, future collaborator, or a parent or loved one. And, of course, welcoming our alumni home is a constant source of pride and joy.
Thank you to all who participated so enthusiastically in these various events, and I do hope that you will help me to identify ways of bringing visitors—especially children—to campus as the weather warms up and our flowers and trees begin to bloom. I would also appreciate your help in circulating good news about our university; please like, repost and share stories that you see on social media or in the news. Some recent positive news stories include:
• The smashing success of our co-requisite Privateer Pathway math program
• The outstanding performance of our senior healthcare management students on their benchmark exam, the Peregrine exam
• International Studies major A’ishah Abdalah’s selection as a prestigious Roosevelt Fellow this summer
• ÑÇÖÞÎÞÂë’s top 10% national ranking on the CollegeNET Social Mobility Index
Please make sure to share your positive news stories with us so that we can make sure to share them with others!
With ÑÇÖÞÎÞÂë Pride,
Kathy Johnson, Ph.D.
President
