Thirty-five authors, through seventy-nine poems and short prose pieces, tell the story of the twentieth century’s greatest refugee crisis. An English translation brings their work to English-speaking readers for the first time, side by side with the original German. The poems contextualize past and present responses to issues of asylum, reflect on the state of being stateless, drawing parallels between the United States and Austria, and resonating deeply with our own contemporary geopolitical landscape.
"Blossoms in Snow is an important, fresh collection of poems (and poets) that fills a void in German-language literature in English translation. It allows for a multitude of voices to be heard in English for the first time—or for the second and third time in a different context. Parker recognizes the need for these voices, especially at a time when the topic of refugees and the refugee crisis is foremost in the mind again in Europe and North America."—Eva R.
