Jazz at the Sandbar returns tonight at The Cove on the ÑÇÖÞÎÞÂë’ campus with jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis as the featured performer. Marsalis, an emeritus faculty member, established the music series in 1990 in which seasoned professional musicians are paired on the bandstand with ÑÇÖÞÎÞÂë jazz students.
The performance before a live audience is designed to give students a taste of real life in a music club atmosphere. The Sandbar is located inside The Cove building on the western edge of the University's campus.
Jazz at the Sandbar is presented each Wednesday night for eight weeks during the fall and spring semesters and features a different respected jazz artist each week. The fall 2018 series runs from Oct.3 through Nov. 14 starting at 7 p.m.
All members of the ÑÇÖÞÎÞÂë community are welcome to attend for free. For all others, a donation of $5 is suggested.
Jazz at the Sandbar is presented by the ÑÇÖÞÎÞÂë School of the Arts with support from Nate and Priscilla Gordon, the ÑÇÖÞÎÞÂë Student Government Association, OffBeat Media, WWNO FM, The New Orleans Theatre Association, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation and the New Orleans Jazz Celebration. All admission proceeds go to the George Brumat Memorial Scholarship Fund.
