The spring 2020 edition of Silver & Blue magazine is headed to your mailbox.
In the last couple of months the COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant changes in our world and in our lives. We’ve had to adapt and adjust to new normals, like “social distancing,” “stay-at-home” mandates and attending all classes remotely.
Indubitably, these times are challenging. Privateers are a determined and dedicated group of people. You will meet some of them between the pages of the most recent issue of Silver & Blue.
As President John Nicklow writes in his greeting: “The stories you will read here can inspire hope and be a salve for the spirit as we endure this collective hardship.”
Our cover story features alumnus Chris Dier, Louisiana’s Teacher of the Year and one of only four finalists for the national teacher of the year title. Dier, who teaches high school history, discovered his professional calling after fleeing another disaster.
Other stories include a musical tale about T-Ray the Violinist whose fresh takes on popular and classical music scored an audience that included Saints quarterback Drew Brees, a graduate student whose affinity for France helped her earn an internship studying the French legislature—in Paris, and the giant passion of alumnus and paleontologist David Burnham.
You can also read about the record-breaking, history making feats of Privateers track star Arina Kleshchukova and how Clancy DuBos, one of New Orleans go-to- political analysts, credits his degree with helping shape his stellar journalism career.
And wait until you see the photographs. Spoiler alert—they are spectacular!
So catch up on happenings and relive memorable moments featured in 52-pages of stories and pictures about the University’s local and global impact via its students, alumni and faculty.
